About Volunteer Breeders...

At PERSONAL PONIES, we do not advertise to find prospective breeders. We prefer that you find us... but when you do, we think you will find that we have an innovative approach to sharing our UK Shetland breeding program.

Unlike a commercial enterprise, our organization cannot grow simply by producing more product on an assembly line. It takes eleven months to gestate a foal, and a minimum of six months more before a foal is ready to leaves its dam and begin its life in our program. This means we need lots of breeding farms...and that we need to be able to purchase lots of ponies supply our farms with quality breeding stock.

It is a SLOW process...but one to which we are completely committed. Virtually all of our funds are used to import quality breeding stock and individual ponies to be placed into our program!

The Breeding Program

We believe that our breeding program (like most things about us) is completely unique. Our goal is to establish breeding farms in communities throughout the nation to benefit the children of YOUR community and in order to do this, we provide each volunteer breeder with a stallion and two broodmares of UK Shetland type. In return, you agree to care for these ponies according to your guidelines and to return all foals to the program. Pretty simple, don't you think?

You do not “own” these ponies and they can NEVER be bought from the PERSONAL PONIES program. However, we will give them to you for “lifetime use,” just as we give our kids their ponies for “lifetime use”—or until such time as you no longer wish to participate in the program or we agree together on other arrangements. We do not remove ponies on a whim, and so long as you are happy and your ponies are happy, we are happy and want them to stay with you.

However, should you fail to take proper care of our ponies and you are not able or willing to remedy the situation, the ponies will be removed. Our ponies are very precious to us—and once they are part of our program, we are commited to them for life. Therefore, we require excellent care and lots of love!

Can I also promote PERSONAL PONIES?

YES! We would LOVE for you to also use your ponies to promote the organization (and though it isn't required, we think it won't be long before you will want to). Our stallions are sweet and docile fellows and we take them everywhere!

We also hope you will want to invite children to visit your farm and to be involved with promoting PERSONAL PONIES in your community. Children adore our foals (and our foals adore them, too).

Quite honestly, we don't think that the “work” of volunteering could be more fun or rewarding that working with our ponies.

Wouldn't you like to contact your State Director today to find out more about how you can help establish PERSONAL PONIES in your community?
