Of songs and ponies...

Photo of Britney and her pony, Clementine. When she was eighteeen days old, Britney's abusive father threw her against a brick wall. She suffered severe brain damage and it was believed that she would never hear, speak or see... As a result of her abusive situation, Britney was removed from her parents and adopted by a neonatal nurse at the hospital where she was treated. Britney is legally blind and deaf and is able to speak very little.

When we heard about Britney's plight, we found her a most special "personal pony," CLEMENTINE to brighten her life. Britney and CLEMENTINE bonded quickly and within a week, Britney was able to walk to the barn and was learning how to care for her new pony. She also loves rattling the fence to call her pony, then putting her hand through to feel for CLEMENTINE who comes and waits patiently, and responds with a lick or nuzzle to Britney's little hand.

But Britney's greatest joy comes from singing to her new pony... Now CLEMENTINE is quite a big word for a little girl who can't say "Mama," but Britney stands on the fence in her hard hat and sings the TUNE "Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine..." at the top of her lungs. The only word distinguishable is "Clementine," but the tune IS clear. Then Britney giggles and screeches with delight and begins the song again—over and over again...

Britney was just five when she got her pony, and as you can see from the picture, their relationship continues to grow.

Is this not love?
