OREO - PERSONAL PONIES Ambassador
OREO is a 36" bay pinto gelding of the UK Shetland
type, and has been in our program since 1998 when he was gifted to the
program by Elizabeth and Merlin Bean of Vermont.
His first tour of “tour of duty” was at Greystone
Farm in New York with our Founder and
Director, Marianne Alexander.
Marianne says that OREO "was a great favorite here at Greystone as all
the children who visited were drawn to his spectacular coloring and his
gentle attitude. This pony TRULY adores children!"
OREO's next
assignment was with
volunteer Cindy Smith in Virginia , where he served as a PERSONAL
PONIES “Roving Ambassador.” Cindy took him to a lot of community
events, including the “Parade of Breeds” in March of 1999 and later to
the Crepe Myrtle Festival. With his usual aplomb, OREO stole the hearts
of all who saw him and played a key role in getting the word about the PERSONAL
PONIES program in his community.
OREO - A PERSONAL PONIES “Best Friend”
In July of 1999, the
decision was made that OREO was ready
to move on in his duties and he was sent to Iowa to be Ryan's new “best
friend.” Ryan is paralyzed and spends a lot of his time in his red
wagon, but as you can see from the picture, OREO thinks that is a fine
place to spend time with Ryan!
OREO will belong to Ryan for as long as he wants.
But if the time comes that Ryan feels he has “outgrown” his pony, OREO
will return to the program and a new assignment.
